Sundance 2026 - Top 10 Films Ranked
Hi. How’s it going? It’s been awhile since I last wrote here, I know, but I never stopped watching films or appropriately culture-ing. What better way to get back into it than my favorite way to begin the new year: marathoning a lot of new films in an unhinged short amount of time.
Yup, it's already time to talk about the upcoming year's movies. That’s right, before we've even barely digested the Oscar noms from last year. But that's Sundance for ya, and truth be told it's a great forcing function to get going in the new year due to January/February being dead months for movies anyway.
The vibes for the Sundance Film Festival 2026 felt a little off for several reasons, partly due to the fucked-up stuff happening in the world at the same time as the festival, but also because it's the last year the festival is in Park City, Utah before moving to Boulder, Colorado for 2027. The quality of the films seemed a bit... mid from my own personal experience the past few years and also reading the critical reception for many of the films.
Nevertheless, it's still really exciting to see new films in a discovery-forward event where you really got not much to go on other than other film-sickos and industry people's first reactions on Letterboxd or the trade publications. Even though actually going to the festival is great for the audience atmosphere and the line conversations, I love doing Sundance at home because a) it's warm and b) it's an excuse for me to DoorDash some Square Pie Guys pizza so i can eat comfort food in the minimum amount of time to fit in 5 screenings a day on my couch.
Because of personal travel plans and the shortened 4 day window for online access, I only had two days to watch and therefore had to aggressively pick and cram 5 films a day to complete my 10 pack package. Here's my ranked list of the movies I saw with the Number One pick being the only truly "great" film that I saw. Bedford Park and Zi really resonated with me personally, while most of the others are solid picks for people into the film premises.
Thanks for reading. If this landed with you, forward it to someone you want to appropriately culture as well.
